Full Version now Available

The trial version was released earlier today (check the previous post) and now the full version is available for download at Direct2Drive for those who ordered it from that location. However, it appears that it cannot connect with Sporepedia just yet. We’re still awaiting information on the availability of the editor at other outlets. Remember, if you create any interesting creatures and upload a video to youtube, post it in our forum and we will be adding many to the front page later today and throughout the rest of the month. It’s Official: Creature Creator Hits Europe

It looks like the confusion regarding the Creature Creator release date, whether it would be released on the 17th, 18th or the 22nd did not have any substance. I say this because those in Europe are now able to download the trial and/or purchase the full creature creator at EA’s Europe Store. Hopefully later today other regions will have access to it too. Delayed, Again (Probably?)

It looks like the creature creator won’t make its way into our hands until the 22nd. In an odd move, EA pushed the release back for the second time in but a few days. I can imagine that there must be something going wrong behind the scenes and Maxis/EA need some time to resolve it. I only have one source for this information, if you have received this email as well, please say so in our forums. Here’s the email:

Creature Videos

Because so many people now have the creature creator, youtube has been hit by a large number videos (through Spore’s in-game youtube video maker). Here’s a short list of some of the more interesting creatures.

Sporepedia Sharing Closed until the 18th & Delay

The Sporepedia was closed last night until the 18th. That’s not a typo, the official release of the Creature Creator has been delayed by EA for a day. It will be available this coming Wednesday at 12pm central time. Over the past two days Sporepedia had been filled with over 13,000 creatures. I’m not entirely sure if they closed it down because they did not want the leaked creature creator to be sharing until the 18th or if they were simply not ready yet for the massive influx of content. Regardless, you can still check out the current creatures present in their database by going here. The creature creators, for those that have found it through legitimate and illegitimate means continue to work without it as intended - except you cannot login, register and upload your creatures to Sporepedia - that will have to wait.

Spore Creature Creator Leaked

If you have been following the forums at all, you have probably realized that the creature creator was leaked and it is spreading across the net. It’s the trial version, not the full copy so essentially you are gaining access to what would have been released for free on the 17th. At this point, I don’t feel comfortable posting a link to it - but I don’t mind talking about it either, as it is free and if you frequent any Spore forum you should already know about it. You can find it through the usual shady channels. If you take a look at Sporepedia, you can see that there are now thousands of creatures - more are being added every minute. I will post a link to the creature creator if Maxis isn’t against it.

Celebrities Compete in the name of Maxis

According to Kotaku, It looks like 50 or so celebrities have received early copies of the Creature Creator and they are competing against each other in hope of finding out who can create the most fantastic creature. The winner will win a $15,000 donation to their favorite charity, courtesy of EA. Everyone will have a chance to vote for the winner on Spore website sometime next week. Here’s a short list of celebs known to be involved in the competition:
