Currencies of Spore

In Spore, the currency used to either upgrade your organism, creature, vehicles and city changes depending on the phase of the game that you are in. It’s pretty intuitive considering what you are ‘buying’.

• Phase 1 & 2: DNA Points, you are upgrading your organism and then your creature in these two phases. Considering you must change their DNA Code to modify their morphology, it seems appropriate that anything spent would be DNA related.
• Phase 3: This is the tribal phase and the transition between animalism and civilization. Food this stage’s form of currency, you can use it to barter for new tools and structures. Food can be gathered or acquired through the taming of lesser animals into the livestock.
• Phase 4 & 5: You have now reached the point where you have the control over a civilization. Civilization of past have used a very specific form of currency: Spice. Throughout our own history Spice has played a very important role as a currency. In Spore, once you reach the space stage, you can form colonies on other planets. Each colony will generate spice for you, income can be spent on UFO upgrades. Some of these upgrades are very expensive, so having numerous colonies is definitely a requirement!
