Weapons & Builder’s Corner

As promised, I have completed another partial list of parts. The latest is of all known weapons, you can find it here. I will have a list of feet-parts up by Friday. I also want to bring to your attention a new subsection of our forum called the Builder’s Corner. It is intended to be a place where spore fans can come together and work on interesting creative projects that push the editors to their limits. The forum is run by Thaw and he has already proposed a variety of interesting projects. If people participate, these projects could very easily become genuinely fun collaborative endeavors. Start participating by taking a look at the Builder’s Corner.

Will Wright in Vancouver

The Vancouver Sun has published an article about the man behind Spore (and the Sims, SimCity etc). Will Wright is in Vancouver to give a speech as part of VAG’s Krazy exhibition. Read the article here. Below is a short snippet:

When Wright and his small games company, Maxis (which was bought by Electronic Arts), ran the idea of The Sims past a focus group, the response was unanimous: they hated it. Ignoring their input, he put the game on the market, and The Sims went on to set sales records Females bought the games in big numbers. This makes sense, as nearly half of The Sims’s 20-member games team were women.

Spore Limited Edition

It looks like PrimaGames spilled the beans on what will be shipping with the Spore ‘Limited Edition’. I’m not sure if this is the ‘official’ limited edition or simply something PrimaGames has conjured up for their own customers.  According to their site, the limited edition will be bundled with the following:

Spore 101: Learn everything you need to know to evolve your spore from a single-celled creature to a space-faring race.
Removeable Poster: Huge poster of exclusive Spore art.
Exclusive Access: Prima has exclusive access to the entire team, from the designers to Will Wright himself.
Removeable Lithographs: Exclusive Spore art ready to be framed or just put on your wall for all to see.
Coffee Table Collectable: This beautiful gel-filled, hardback will be sure to please collectors and fans alike.

Thanks GamingSteve

New Spore Creature Creator Video

Here is the first new creature creator video of the week, I’d like to say something interesting and witty here but I’m all out of video descriptions. Watch the video below:

Observation Log

I have introduced a small new feature to the site, it’s called the Observation log (part of the Encylopedia Galactica). Every now and then, as new Spore previews/interviews/videos hit the web, I will update it with things that I have noticed. These will generally be short, but informative tidbits. I will make a post whenever it is updated. Check out the first issue here.

MTV Spore Preview

MTV had the chance to fool around with the creature creator and conjure up a creature called ‘Flumpert’. Read their impressions here. A snippet is below:

Hutchinson showed me the full game of “Spore,” running in a laptop that is carried in a bag that has brought the game around the world, hence the Indonesian loose change found in one of its pouches. We loaded the creature creator, which randomly presented a torso to which I could apply appendages. At inception, Flumpert was two globs of clay stacked and leaning toward what would be his front. I put a tusked mouth where you might think his posterior is, two more bug-like mouths where you could imagine he’d have ears. I applied limbs and hands and ears and saw that the features I added began to statistically define his personality.

Thanks SpaceOddity

Canadian Spore Showcase

As part of the Vancouver art gallery’s Krazy exhibit, various Spore art is on display. Pictures of these pieces were (covertly) taken by gamingsteve’s interitus, check them out here. Will Wright will be giving a speech on Wednesday as a part of the exhibition. (thanks SpaceOddity)

Creature Sense Organs

I know I promised this would be up Friday, but I decided to spend some extra time scouring the videos for a few more parts. Unfortunately, while I was able to locate most of the eyes, the other sense organs were not displayed much. The sense organs have far less variety than the mouths did, with Charm being the only alloted attribute I saw. For those interested, you can check the list here. We will be updating it as more information becomes available. I’ve also started work on hands and weapons, which appear to offer more interesting statistical modifications. For those who have not read it yet, you may want to check out our mouths list. I also wish to (again) thank gamingsteve, their work helped me fill in a few holes (namely in the nose and ear categories).

New Tribal Video & Screenshots

IGN made our day, as they have a new Tribal phase video along with 29 new screenshots! The screenshots can be viewed here, while the video is below (Thanks Spore Illustratred). On a side note, our list of sense organs will be up later today - sorry for the delay:

New Creature Video

Gamevideos has yet another video, the latest includes footage of the creature editor and the creature creation process. Check it out below (thanks to Sporeprograms):
