Planets

By the time you reach the Spore’s Space phase, you will become very interested in the different types of planets present in your solar system and beyond. Planets come in a variety of different forms, some are favorable to life and others are not, while some cannot support life under any circumstance (for all intents and purposes, Gas Giants are such an example) and others will only allow the development of very primitive life (quality of planets and biosphere decreases with the distance from the sun/star). We’ve included a list of currently known planet types in Spore, there are undoubtedly more but based upon the screenshots, we haven’t been able to discern what they are exactly. While Spore will ship with many relatively accurate terraforming principles, not all the planets are realistic - some have a more imaginative appearance. We’ve categorized such planets as ‘odd’, because from a astronomical standpoint they are very bizarre.

Wet Planet Wet

(Realistic) Earth is such a planet, with its surface composed of mostly water, yet there is still a great deal of land. Such planets have the perfect mix of adequate atmosphere, heat and surface water.

Water Planet Water

(Realistic) Almost entirely covered with water, similar to the movie ‘Water World’, very little room for advanced (land) life to flourish.

Ice Planet Ice

(Realistic) These balls of ice are frozen over because they are too far away from the sun’s rays. It is just too cold to support life here.

Arid Planet Arid

(Realistic) A very dry planet, these are usually rather close to the sun. The lack of water means that life will have a difficulty developing.

Lava Planet Lava

(Realistic) Too hot to support life, the lava may be because it is too close to the sun or being tidally heated by a large gas planet

Gas Giant Gas Giant

(Realistic) These are absolutely massive planets, a bit like miniature stars. Because of their extremely thick atmosphere, life is impossible as the pressure is so large that it crushes anything on the planet’s surface.

Barren Barren

(Realistic) Very little of anything is present on these planets - their surface is usually relatively flat and unremarkable.

Rocky Planet Rocky

(Realistic) Composed almost entirely of rock and rock formations. These are usually moons or planets relatively close to the sun.

Crater Planet Crater

(Realistic) A type of planet that has been the target of large clusters of meteorites and possess a large number of craters.

Floral Planet Floral

(Odd) A type of planet with a surface with a floral like shape and large oceans.

Shitaki Mushroom Planet Shitaki Mushroom #1

(Odd) Littered with large mushroom like projections that are visible from space.

Shitaki Mushroom Planet Shitaki Mushroom #2

(Odd) Another planet, with a much more lush appearance, with prominent mushroom projections visible from space.

Bizzare Planet Bizarre #1

(Odd)

Bizzare Planet #2 Bizarre #2
