UFO Devices

Spore UFOLate in the civilization stage, your people will have enough funds to build a UFO and as soon as they do, you enter the space phase of the game. The UFO is essentially a swiss army knife, as it allows you to do a whole slew of things.

Spore Terraforming

  • Volcano Maker: Create large volcanoes on the surface of planets, eventually with their eruptions and the out gassing of subsurface chemicals, the planet will build an atmosphere. It takes time, but this is one of the first steps towards creating a habitable planet.
  • Comet redirection: Comets are mostly made of ice, they are remnants of the early solar system. The UFO can slam these comets into a planet, thereby adding water to its surface. Be careful though! If too many comets hit your planet, it will become a water world.

  • CO2 Pumper: Pumping CO2 into a planet’s atmosphere actually builds up the atmosphere. The denser the atmosphere, the more heat that is retained. You must strike a balance between having enough of atmosphere to support life and too much, which could cause a wet (or runaway) greenhouse effect, which would heat up the planet and evaporate all water present on the surface.
  • Genesis Device: One the last and most expensive addons your UFO has access to is the genesis tool. It allows your UFO to very quickly transform a barren, uninhabitable planet into a planet that is able to support life.

Spore Terraforming

  • Tractor Beam/Abduction Tool: Feel like taking something from your home planet to another? Just use your transport beam to capture it and then you can simply fly your UFO to its destination and drop it on the planet’s surface. It can be used to colonize planets with creatures and vegetation.
  • Laser Beam: Your UFO can be outfitted with a laser beam to fry ground level creatures.
  • Armageddon: Did a planet and its civilization annoy you? If you want, you can completely blow up their planet and it will seem like they never even existed.
  • Thermonuclear Bomb: You can destroy a city in a mere seconds. The thermonuclear bomb is not large enough the harm other cities though.

Spore Terraforming

  • Radio Dish: While traveling through your solar system, you can listen for radio signals emmited by other solar systems. If you happen to hear radio communications, it is a sure sign of intelligent life. These ‘civilized’ planets are actually the produce of other players - they have been downloaded from the Spore server and its people act as the original player would want them to (ie. aggressive, pacifist, etc).
  • Colonization Device: Found a planet that you like? Simply drop a colony onto it and it will bring in more revenue for you. You don’t even need a habitable world, as they can live in snow globe if an atmosphere is not present.
  • Monolith: Drop a monolith on a planet with low-intelligence creatures - upon activating the monolith they will become sentient.
  • Fireworks: Having found a planet with primitive life, you may want to impress them with your superior technology. Your UFO can launch fireworks and maybe, just maybe the planet’s inhabitants will begin to worship you.
  • Communication Lights and Sound: Having stumbled upon a new alien race, you will not be able to communicate through your own language. Therefore, you can create a spectacular show of light and sound that hopefully will be interpreted positively. They may like it or be perturbed and begin to assault your UFO if they have such capabilities.

Spore Terraforming

  • Interstellar Drive: Your UFO is initially limited to only it’s home solar system, but eventually you can add a interstellar drive. This allows you to visit further into the galaxy and encounter alien civilizations.
  • Blackhole Device: Allows the UFO to quickly jump across the galaxy. (Possibly between galaxies, remains speculative)
